Village etiquette

A happy village is a fair village
Every Hub is different, but the ones that work best usually share a few common habits.

Start by getting connected
We recommend setting up a Hub WhatsApp or group chat alongside Village.
It makes everyday communication easier, keeping everyone connected outside of the app too.

Meet in real life first
As your Hub grows, you may find yourself connected to friends of friends or families you haven’t met yet. Before swapping babysitting, it’s a good idea to spend some time getting to know each other so everyone feels comfortable.
Talk to us — but also talk to each other
We’re always here if you need support, but the strongest Villages are built through open, respectful communication between families.
Kindness, clarity, and trust go a long way
A few things that help babysitting run smoothly
Leave the beers at home
Strictly no alcohol while babysitting.
No strangers, thanks
Strictly no guests (unless agreed in advance)
Parents provide:
-
Tea, coffee, and biscuits
-
Bedtime instructions, allergy info, access to Wi-Fi/TV
Stay alert
Sitters should remain focused — they can relax, but they’re still on duty.
Fed and ready for bed
For evening sits, children should be fed and ready for bed when the sitter arrives. This helps keep the night simple and predictable for everyone.
Every Village finds its own rhythm
Some Hubs like to agree on a few shared expectations early, especially around babysitting routines, communication, and boundaries.
To make things easier, we’ve created a simple template you can use as a starting point.
